Chapter 1. FACTS and OPINIONS
1.6. STEPS of ACCEPTANCE
1.6.7. INNOVATOR and SOCIETY
è
Three stages of mutual relations of a discoverer and the scientific community, deeply grateful to him, are concentrated by A. Moll in the sole phrase: At studying history of discoveries we often meet three stages:
in the first the inventor is ignored,
in the second – disputed, and if the victory remains on his party
then there is declared, that he has not invented anything new and that his discovery was known and much earlier [ 84 ].
To confirm the second of these three stages we'll recollect, that when Kepler has assumed, that sea ebb and flow are caused by attraction forces from the Moon, Galileo spurned this idea as the "occult bosh" for it concerns with distant actions and, thus, contradicts "natural laws" [ 159, ð. 79 ].
I. Newton's discovery of the gravitation law was still ahead, but it was Galileo (!), not any Chekhov's scientist-neighbour... So what to demand from a neighbour...
A. Moll notes: To what sneers hasn't Pasteur's inoculations against hydrophobia been exposed at former time!
