Sexual terminology is widely applied in spheres which havó no direct communication with the sexual sphere, and applied not only as foul language, in a dirty slang, and not only in Russian. So, the use of the term of sadism in any cases of cruelty display has become a normative.
A vivid example of such lexical phenomenon is the Freudian term libido. Not at all agreeing with S. Freud in whole, let's admit logicality of his analogy (but by S. Freud himsself – identity!) of sexual inclination and vital force. Continuation of a genus demands from an individual, as a rule mainly from male (it is a question not only of human), full (extreme, and sometimes even over-extreme) mobilization both in competitive contacts with contenders and in partner contacts with a mate. If the vital potential (libido) is low, it means the potentiality for realization of sexual claims (libido too) is not sufficient too.
In the similar way, by very remote sexual analogy, we use here the term masochism.
