(The nature of PSYCHE)
Chapter 6.
SLEEP, DREAM, SLEEPLESSNESS
6.2. The NATURE of routine phenomena
6.2.12. LAUGHTER -
is an antipode of crying, and is an attribute of state of harmony, satisfaction by itself and by an environment. It is known: a baby smiles - it means the baby is healthy. Why a child laughs when a clown falls? The child is pleased with himself: the clown has fallen, but he - has not been. Tell to him, that a doggy has mewed - again there is laughter. He feels himself as equal with the adult who so jokes: The doggy does not know, that it mustn't speak MEW, but they do know. Humour is laughter above oneself. Therefore it is always - al least a little - through tears, therefore it is always, and unlike severe satire, kind.
The first displays of humour of a person (of a child) is his laughter above himself. Sometimes - together with others, who laughs above him - instead of to react negatively to their laughter. That is impossible without a pass/output/exit in self-consciousness, without an eminence above consciousness.
